About me
Damian R. Lara brings a wealth of experience and unique perspective to his role as Bernalillo County Assessor. His experience as a young person working the fields in southeastern New Mexico and exposure to stark differences in the quality of life among neighboring communities inspired him to pursue higher education and a career in government. Mr. Lara earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and philosophy from Brown University and a law degree from University of New Mexico.
His public service career began as a Congressional Legislative Assistant, he went on to serve as a staff attorney at the New Mexico Legislature, Interim Director for economic development with the City of Albuquerque, and Deputy Assessor. Mr. Lara was recently elected Chair of the Assessors' Affiliate of the New Mexico Association of Counties by his colleagues for the 2023-2024 term.
